Griffin’s Lair Vineyard Syrah

I am absolutely delighted to announce that Bedrock Wine Co. will be receiving three clones of fruit from this tiny and wonderful vineyard located in the Sonoma Coast appellation beginning in 2009.  Joan Griffin is one of the most conscientious farmers and is dedicated to the use of organic methods in the vineyard.   When I saw her last week a flock of sheep were out on weed-patrol duty!  I have been harassing her for fruit since Bedrock Wine Co. was a mere zygote so it is sweet!!! to be able to provide a good home for some of the fruit.

Since its inception the vineyard has developed a reputation for being one of the top sites for Syrah in the state– its fruit being wonderfully utilized by the talented Pax Mahle, Nate and Duncan over at Arnot-Roberts, and Karen Culler.  I feel lucky and blessed to receive clones 470, Noir, and 877 from this most excellent site.

It will also be a fascinating study in micro-climates and farming as Griffin’s Lair lies less than a half mile from Old Lakeville Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap.
