Buy this Wine! No it is not one of mine
It is rare that I get totally ecstatic over a wine, but this is one where I just gotta say– go get it! and get lots of it!
As reader’s may know, I was a huge fan of Talullah Winery. Unfortunately, the operation seems to have come to a swift end for whatever reason– which really sucks because the wine was great as was the packaging. My favorite of the wines was the 2005 La Femme D’Argent Farina Vnyd. Sauvignon Blanc from Sonoma Mountain– a really delicious white from a site adjacent to Pickberry Vineyard and under Laurel Glen. The wine was barrel fermented but with a limited percentage of new wood. The result is just delicious, textbook Sauvignon Blanc. A mythological cross between Daganeau, Cru Classe’ Graves Blanc, with a kiss of California richness comes to mind. When I first found the wine it cost $25 retail and was a good value at that price– its complexity was comparable with many, many, more expensive Chardonnays.
To note, the Farina Vineyard fruit is a major portion of Arietta On The White Keys– a wine that retails for over $50 if you can find it. It also goes to Tres Sabores and Abe over at The Scholium Project. I have been begging for fruit from the vineyard for two years now to no avail for Cuvee Caritas.
Well, the 2006, which is just as good as the 2005, is available from Vintage Berkeley for $14. Yes, $14 bucks. I have ordered two cases– one for my pop and one for me. I have never purchased an entire case of one wine for myself before, but this one is SO worth it.
While you are at it, pick up a couple bottles of the Edmunds St. John Gamay “Pophyry.” The fruit, grown on pure granite at a few thousand feet in the Sierra Nevada gives some of the best cru beaujolais a run for the money. How good is it? I am thinking of begging Monsieur Edmunds for some of the fruit.
Peace, Love, and Wine!
