TN: 2001 Chateau Verdignan, Haut-Medoc

2001 Ch. Verdignan, Haut-Medoc

Dark, limpid, red. This wine is beginning to show the pretty, stony, perfume of a developing claret.  Cedar, hint of mint, high-toned fruit of perfumed red currant and cranberry, along with a lingering hint of barrel derived vanillin.  For me, this wine is showing optimal development on the palate where a synergy exists between the fruit and the secondary components of gout de terroir, tar, and cedar needles. The tannins are present but are beginning to melt a bit.  This is classic, affordable, Bordeaux and shows a ton more personality than California Cab at the price-point.

This Cru Bourgeouis estate is located just north of St. Estephe, and shares that appellations tendency towards perfume and structure.

This is a slamming bargain and will find a home on my table many times in the next year. $14.99 from K and L.
