Label Thoughts– part deux

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of you who spent so much time analyzing the first labels. I am rendered speechless by all of your thoughtfulness and incites.

There will he wholesale changes made.

Your input was really valuable, and I think Kathryn Havens and I are finally on track. I will post the next round of mock-ups once we get them.

To give a glimpse of some things I am thinking about here are some things I put together. Drawing is not one of my talents so give me the benefit of the doubt!

I like the incorporation of the logo in the tree’s roots… some nice meaning there. You’ll have to be careful with the colors, though, to not resemble Alban too closely (though the Vassar tip-of-hat isn’t a terrible thing either).

The pinot label is OK, but as you build your brand, it might be fun to have a “where’s waldo” for the circular logo?

I like both concepts, Morgan - especially the concept of the soil layering in the first one and how that will look with color. The roots will be a challenge, but you could consider having them almost mirror the shoots on the top and make the whole vine totally balance from top to bottom with the logo dead center. After all, the best fruit comes from balanced vines, right?

On the second one, it looks quite wide so were you envisioning this as a wraparound label? I’ve heard they can be problematic because it’s hard to get both ends to line up consistently when they are applied to the bottle.

Morgan — I really love both of them. In fact, I would take the first one as is. The rough pencil drawing makes it more, well, bedrock-y. I’ll be interested to see how it looks finished and with color. I also like how it’s really getting down to the basics — roots and vines, and not sailing ships and all that pretty but unimportant stuff.

The second one is nice, too. I love the Bedrock Wine Co lettering (but not mixed with the lettering for “Rebecca’s Vineyard”). I think it’s better than the first two from your last post, but still not quite there yet.
