Hello folks. I just saw the trackback link to this site. You've already done a beautiful job of plugging the Wildcat Mountain offerings from Macrostie.

I'd like to offer an update about Uncommon Brewers. We're going to have product on the market in the next two weeks. I'll be cruising around Sonoma County with samples by mid-March, or come on by and visit us in Santa Cruz.

My local shop had some of the Griffin's Lair in recently and I'm kicking myslef for not picking some up, as it is now gone. I guess I was too focused on the Dutton Ranch bottles to notice it at the time!

As for Hein, I'm not sure exactly where the vineyard is except that it's somewhere just outside of Philo. I'm hopeful we can get over there for a quick visit, but we'll see. I did hear that the property might be up for sale, so I'm not sure what the status is at the moment.

Well, it sounds like you have xmas dinner and everything else under control. Enjoy the day!

Hi Carter! So nice to hear from you. I am glad that you were able to find some decent wine in Arkansas. From what I have heard it, like so many American markets, is getting stronger and stronger.

I am thrilled that you keep up with the site. Cannot wait for you to taste some of the wines. Give my best to your family!

Hey, Morgan. Great website. My family is in Arkansas for Christmas; actually was able to find some Altamura cab, which is nice. My whole family fondly remembers the tasting you did for us years ago, and Feldman keeps me up on your success and projects. I spend time on your site as well and find it full of your passion!! Merry Christmas and hope to catch up with you in the future.

Ah, I love the Roessler Wines. You will note that Griffin's Lair Vineyard is on my dream-list of vineyards because of the Pinot they make from it. The Roesslers actually live about 4 houses from my parents in Sonoma. Sounds like you will be drinking something good no matter what.

I have always been a fan of the Drouhin Oregon wines as well, though sometimes I find them to be a bit too austere and linear-- a similar critique I have to many of their Burgundy bottlings. When they are on though they are excellent.

As for me, I have not really decided as it is just my girlfriend and I for Christmas this year. My family is spread across the world with my pop, step-mom, and brother being in Switzerland and my mom and sister being on a relief mission/trek in Kathmandu. Unfortunately it means that the cellar will not be as rooted through. We are having prime rib with a shallot armagnac sauce, vanilla sweet potato puree, brussel sprouts, and yorkshire pudding so it will definitely be something red for the main.

Probably vintage champagne to start. I am in love with the Charles Heidsick Blanc de Millenaires 1995, as well as the Jacquesson Avize 1996, so perhaps on of those two. For red, I may open a 1981 Lopez de Heredia Rioja if we are feeling like something old. For something new I may break into the 2005 Copain James Berry Les Copains or the 2005 Saxum Heartstone (though there is a strong chance I may not like it based on previous experience with the wines). It will certainly be more of a game-day decision than in years past.

Where exactly is Hein vineyard? There now seems to be a couple excellent wines coming from the vineyard.

WC is definately under the radar, the site must be amazing to visit--the pic looks really cool. Funny you ask about wine, we just got back from visiting family in NH and picked up some juice we had sent there--'05 Roessler (Hein Pinot, Clos Pepe Chard, Peregrine Pinot) and '05 Flowers (Francis Thompson Pinot). I'm tempted to bust open a few of those over the next few days, especially the '05 Roessler Hein since that's the vineyard we are making Pinot from but I think I'll let those bottles hang out for a while.

The good thing is we are heading out to Cali tomorow to visit family and make a trip up to Crushpad to check in on things and also Anderson Valley so no doubt the wine will be flowing!

As a prep for the flight we did open a bottle of delicious '05 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot last night--cherry and younger rasberry notes were bursting out of the glass but the wine obviously needs more time to reach its potential.

What do you have in your lineup?

Hey Jeremy. Yes, Steve is one of the nicest guys you will meet, and I am glad you got to taste the wines from Wildcat. I think that Macrostie lacks the "newness and excitement" of some of the younger producers and as a result Wildcat does not get the major press it should receive. My guess is that if Copain, Pax, Carlisle, Aubert, Kongsgaard, Failla, Siduri, etc. made the exact same wine as Macrostie it would receive astronomical scores. But, unfortunately, that is the way of the wine media.

I would love some Pinot but I would feel greedy asking for it. That said, Talisman Winery, run by a guy (Scott Rich) who trained under Tony Soter at Etude is apparently making a killer Pinot from Wildcat as well. The link is here:

http://www.talismanwine.com/talis_04_wildcat_pn.html

The Syrah is so distinctive though that I am absolutely thrilled to be getting a little bit of it (and you can see how little is planted on the map, and the top block on the map has actually been budded over to Pinot Noir).

Thanks for the comment. What are you drinking for Christmas?

Good score! I met Steve at the Boston wine expo earlier this year and got a chance to sample the Wildcat selection. Your dead right, that juice stands on its own, it was by far the most interesting wine we tasted at the event. And Steve was the nicest guy to talk to--a cool "cat" if you will! Any chance you can get your paws on some Pinot?
