Phil Coturri on Organic Farming

I realize that this site has, heretofore, dealt primarily with winemaking and its processes. That said, in ignoring the role of viticulture, I have not paid heed to the most essential element of making good wine– happy, healthy, balanced grapevines! Here is a video Tyler and I shot with the long-time guru of organic farming in Sonoma and Napa– Phil Coturri. Though we have not gone organic at Bedrock Vineyards we are incorporating many organic practicies such as cover-cropping, crop-rotation, and organic weed-control into our farming in our effort towards complete sustainability. I hope to have videos of other viticultural opinions up soon!

Great interview Morgan. Phil seems like such a nice and knowledgeable guy but exploding bottles of Coturri still keep me up at night like a war hero with p.t.s.d.

HAHAHAHA. A the sweet memories of Pet Wines.

Seriously.

Never good when you can literally see the cork slowly popping out of a bottle as the day goes on. Like Gremlins, in slow motion.

That said, Phil is the farming brother– running Enterprise Vineyard Management. His brother Tony, who is perhaps a bit more eccentric and certainly taller with crazier eyebrows, makes Coturri wine. Phil is about as cool a guy as it gets and an excellent farmer.

every food that we eat should come from Organic Farming. i really get scared about those toxins coming from chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides. I only eat foods which are certified that they are organically grown
